According to preliminary data, in Odesa, 75% of schools and kindergartens have protective structures, the simplest shelters, or there are protective structures near them that can be used during air raids. For maximum security, “alarm buttons” and video surveillance cameras are actively being installed in institutions, the issue of student transportation is being resolved.
This became known during a meeting between the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Serhiy Shkarlet, and the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Maksym Marchenko.
According to the minister, commissions have been created in the region to monitor the availability and condition of shelters in educational institutions.
The educational process is planned to start in the traditional format on September 1. However, the final decision will depend solely on the security situation and will be made after the conclusions of the special commission in the relevant act of the institution regarding the readiness to start the academic year in full-time mode. The final data on the format of the educational process in each institution of the Odesa region will be ready at the beginning of August.
Currently, a distance and mixed format of education is envisaged for children who are temporarily abroad and children whose parents have concerns about full-time education. According to the directors of the departments of education and science, teachers are gradually returning to the region and are ready to work full-time. All conditions are being created for the continuation of work and for those teachers who are still far from the main place of work, to involve them in teaching in distance classes. In schools and kindergartens, the training of teachers in providing first medical aid, as well as the briefing of representatives of the State Emergency Service and the National Police on evacuation and security issues, continues.
“I would like to note that in all regions of Ukraine, the Ministry, together with representatives of military administrations, heads of education departments and educators, the State Emergency Service and the National Police, is working to create the safest possible conditions for learning, so that educational institutions are a place of safety,” emphasized Serhiy Shkarlet.
