Gulshen Mladenova has been working as an emergency physician in Chernihiv since 2014. In berezniki, her medical team was hit by mortar fire near Tolstoy Street.
When the ambulance arrived on the scene, the shelling continued. “But people were watching us. I decided that we would still work under such conditions”, – the doctor recalls.
She remembers four people injured near the blown up car. There was a family who wanted to leave the city.
A little boy of nine years old was among the wounded… He was lying in the middle of the litter. In the ambulance the boy asked if he could sleep.
“That’s all he said… He didn’t say anything, he just squeezed his eyes shut and asked, ‘Can I sleep? I really want to sleep. We took him to the hospital and he fell asleep. For the rest of his life,” said Gulshen Mladenova, honored doctor of Ukraine, with tears in her eyes. Despite all her grief, pain and discomfort, she does not stop working with her colleagues. She continues to live her life, often risking her own.
