After the Russians captured Lysychansk on July 3, most of Luhansk region was under occupation. Approximately 300,000 Luhansk residents left their homes, but thousands of people remained in the territories captured after February 24. Without gas, water, light and communication, the situation in some settlements is called close to a humanitarian disaster.
This is stated in an interview with hromadske with the head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, Serhii Gaidai.
Currently, the regional government is dealing with humanitarian issues related to residents who evacuated from Luhansk region. “For example, in Severodonetsk, people with diabetes were registered in the hospital. They need insulin. If we restore the medical structure of Severodonetsk, it receives money from the National Health Service and people are given insulin free of charge. There are many such examples: cancer patients, people who need dialysis, etc. There are people who have lost their documents or need to renew something – we process it,” says Gaidai.
Information collection centers are being launched in order to find out who exactly needs help with placement in the near future. “I know very well that there are indeed cases when people live in a dormitory of a vocational school, but the academic period begins on September 1 and they will be told: “Excuse me, please, we have studies, so look for something else,” – shares Gaidai.
According to him, the regional government already has a certain base of housing, where people can move and where no one will evict them or take away their premises. “In addition, we work with international partners, with my colleagues – the heads of regional administrations. Now we are working on cooperation projects, when, for example, some region gives us a plot of land, and we build houses there with the help of our own funds or with the help of international partners people with IDP status,” explains the head of the Luhansk OVA.
