The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has published the story of Senior Lieutenant Dmitry Chavalakh, who took part in the fighting in the Kherson region on the first day of the Russian invasion.
Senior Lieutenant Dmitry Chavalakh met a full-scale invasion of the Russian aggressor in the area of Oleshkivsky Sands in the Kherson region. He perceived the first shelling, like all officers in the battalion, as a racist provocation. But when the Russians broke through the Crimean military equipment and began moving towards Kherson, he realized: “War!”
To stop the enemy on the frontiers far from Kherson, the company of senior lieutenant Chavalakh was ordered to gain a foothold on the bridge fifty kilometers from Chaplynka. But already during the movement they received another order: to move towards the Antonovsky bridge, which connects Kherson with the Left Bank. However, the enemy managed to land their landing from helicopters on the bridge, which opened heavy fire on our rear units, which were the first to move towards Kherson. Ukrainians were forced to turn back.
The only way out is to break through the enemy’s defenses! Dmytro Dozirchy’s tank company (Hero of Ukraine, a graduate of the National Academy of Land Forces named after Hetman Petro Sagaidachny in 2019) was the first to do so. The unit was anchored on the other side of the bridge. And then came the infantry, including Chavalakh’s subordinates. For about three hours, overcoming a distance of one and a half kilometers, they moved with battles along the Antonivsky Bridge, over which there was a railway line, near it there was a rise from the ground, from which the racists could be seen as on the palm. There Chavalakh decided to gain a foothold to cover the retreat to Kherson of the rest of the brigade. However, 50 meters before a certain position, he was shot by an enemy sniper. But the subordinates fulfilled the task and the brigade broke through the encirclement.
The company was quickly evacuated to the hospital. That same evening, February 24, Dmytro underwent surgery. On the morning of the 26th, he regained consciousness. I called my mother and siblings and said I was alive! And in a few days the occupiers entered the settlement. After the Victory, we will know for sure about the course of further events regarding the recovery of our Hero, who and how, risking his own life and the life of his family, gave him asylum, and then, according to all the rules of conspiracy, transported to Odessa.
Dmytro has not yet personally received his high and well-deserved award, the star of the Hero of Ukraine. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation. But already mentally decides how to return to action and finish off the enraged enemy!
