In the battles for the Ukrainian Mariupol, Major of the Azov Regiment Vitaliy Zinchenko died, who covered his comrades in battle at the cost of his own life.
A 27-year-old major of a special detachment of the Azov Regiment died during the defense of Azovstal in Mariupol more than a month ago, and his parents recently received official confirmation.
This was announced on June 16 on the website of the Gogol community, where the defender came from.
It is known that Vitaliy Zinchenko defended Mariupol from the first days of the full-scale invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine. On April 30, the fighter was promoted to the rank of major. At that time, Azovstal was the hottest spot in the current war.
On May 5, in battle, noticing an enemy tank that went to a straight position, Vitaly covered his brothers. At that moment, he received a fatal shrapnel wound.
On June 13, the victim’s parents received official notification of his death. The family is currently unable to bury Vitaliy, as his body is still in the Azovstal area, where the bodies of other dead military and civilian victims remain, which are not allowed to be taken out by the invaders.
On May 24, by the Decree of the President of Ukraine № 367/2022, Vitaliy Zinchenko was posthumously awarded the Order “For Courage” of the III degree. In addition to his parents, the soldier is survived by his grandmother and twin brother Valentin.
