The prosecutor’s office reported that the tank battalion commander and gunner-operator of military unit 41659 of the 35th Separate Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 41st All-Military Army of the Russian Armed Forces were suspected of violating the laws and customs of war (Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code). 

According to the investigation, the tank battalion of the RF Armed Forces invaded the territory of Chernihiv region in order to seize Chernihiv airport and occupy the region. During the attack, the battalion commander illegally ordered the gunner to fire 125 mm high-explosive shells at a residential building in Chernihiv that was not for military purposes and was not used for military purposes. As a result of the shelling, some living quarters of the house were completely destroyed.

Thanks to the concerted actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the enemy tank was destroyed and the suspects were taken prisoner.

The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings is carried out by the Investigative Department of the Security Service of Ukraine in Chernihiv Oblast. The involvement of the military in the commission of other crimes is established.
